Evanston is a city directly north of Chicago, east of Skokie, and south of Wilmette. The city has a total population of 74,239, 29,651 households, and 15,952 families residing in the city. Evanston is ethnically mixed with the following breakdown in population: 62.56% White, 22.50% Black or African-American, 6.11% Hispanic or Latino, 6.09% Asian, and 2.85% from other races.

There are 29,651 households out of which 25.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.4% are married couples living together. The average household size is 2.27 and the average family size is 3.03.

The median age is 32 years. The median income for a household is $56,335, and the median income for a family is $78,886.
